Postural strain is the stress that your daily life places on your back when you repeatedly slouch over your desk. Carry children, Sit in awkward positions, or react to stress by holding your shoulders up by your ears for long periods. It’s also caused by your body’s natural adaptation to accidents, injury, repetitive movements, and historical surgeries. But whatever the cause or catalyst was for you, it’s the resulting postural strain from these activities, injuries or operations that causes tight muscles, stiffness and daily back pain.
For you, back pain could be intermittent mild pain and stiffness. For others, severe and unrelenting daily pain limits their activity and leaves them bedbound. In addition, you may have nerve pain that starts in your lower back and shoots down into your legs. In severe cases, you might even have muscle weakness, numbness and tingling accompanying the pain.
It's there every time you move or change position – and seems to get worse right when you get into bed and try to sleep. Walking aggravates it, and running is excruciating. The gym and playing sport are out of the question – and you're popping pain pills every couple of hours to get through the day.
